Housing Opportunities
– By #MillerSD
I am happy to announce that On Hand Development Corporation (OHDC) help make a dream of owning a home come true this past week. Part of the mission of OHDC is to make sure that Hand County has safe, affordable housing. Housing is a big part of economic development. Our communities not only need jobs for young families but also need adequate and affordable housing to attract them to our area. OHDC has put our mission to work and made a dream come home for the Otteson family. This family of four, has bought their first home.
“We are so excited for this opportunity to become first-time homeowners and we are thankful that we have a home that is clean, safe and efficient. Thank you On Hand for having this program available,” Collin Otteson.
The home that was sold, was a Governor’s Home bought by OHDC for the purpose of providing affordable housing to Hand County. This is the second Governor’s Home that OHDC has sold in the last three years. OHDC is excited to make housing opportunities for families that are devoted to staying in Hand County.
The Governor’s house program was established in 1996. To date, they have made over 2,700 homes. These homes are energy efficient, low maintenance, handicap accessible, and affordable. There are a few terms that the buyer must meet and they include; income and net worth qualifications and it must be the only residence.
On Hand will continue to make the journey towards finding solutions to housing needs and obstacles in the Hand County area. Perhaps many of you will join in the conversation regarding housing so that more of Hand County can have their very own home and make a dream of owning a home a reality.
